Choreographer: São Castro
Description:
Celebrating 100 years since the death of one of the most enigmatic and influential writers of the 20th century, Franz Kafka, choreographer São Castro combines the body in movement and its expressive potential with this author’s visceral narrative. Bureaucratic labyrinths, the tragic and grotesque, the absurdity of existence, the value of art and the artist’s relationship with his audience, are components of the bewilderment to which Kafka leads his characters and sets out his stories, in iconic works such as “The Metamorphosis “, “The Process” or the short story “The Hunger Artist”.
The title “The Process of Burning in Reverse” is a metaphor for the fulfillment of Kafka’s last wish – that Max Brod would burn all his manuscripts after his death. Contrary to the author’s wishes, his trusting friend chose to preserve the writings and drawings, guaranteeing the impact of Kafka’s work and perpetuating some of the most relevant works of 20th century literature.
Presentation at SDF with the support of Embassy of Portugal in Croatia / Instituto Camões in Zagreb
