SHADOWS DANCE THEATER

The SHADOWS dance theater is a local youth company founded in 2001.
Its principal activity is contemporary dance education. The company produces full evening dance performances and musicals for children and young adults. It has participated in many national and international competitions and festivals.
Nowadays, they are best known as the main organizer of the SIBENIK DANCE FESTIVAL.

Word from the artistic director Zorana Mihelčić:

“How did the journey of the Šibenik Dance Festival that we know of today – start?
As a passionate promoter of contemporary dance, through my pedagogical work with children and young people and professional cooperation with Šibenik HNK, investing in the education of our students, working with best Croatian and the world dance teachers, Šibenik has gradually become familiar with contemporary dance. I am grateful for having the privilege of living in Šibenik, a city with the ideal infrastructure for an artistic project like this, its festival tradition, a unique architecture, architectural monuments under UNESCO protection, the rich cultural heritage and finally – an artistic atmosphere all around.
‘Šibenik may be a small town, but the festival is world class!’ These were the words that Maciej Kuzminski, the great Polish choreographer and artist used to describe the festival. The credit for this success belongs to the small festival creative team and my collaboration with prominent Šibenik’s cultural and creative organizations and local entrepreneurs.

Since the foundation of Shadows dance theater, Šibenik has showcased the best productions of the large and small scale dance companies, equally professional artists and young pre-professionals, behind which are amazing creativity and impeccable technique.

I am especially proud of the Art Cube festival fringe program, intended for young talented dancers, some of whom are yet to enter the professional dance world. Every year we organize an educational program ranging from children’s creative workshops to those for experienced dancers taught by dance teachers with an international reputation. We are highly praised by our workshop participants for the unique opportunities that the Festival offers, and that is the opportunity to study, rest and watch live performances by professional dancers and dance companies.”
