In a burst of light, a glimpse of skin from one… No, perhaps two bodies. The image is intriguing. Thoughts explode into dozens of associations with other images and experiences, trying to grasp what is not immediately perceivable at first sight. Eyes squint, heads tilt. Yes, they are indeed two.
‘Matomari No Nai’ seeks to explore the relationship between two bodies and the different metamorphoses suggested by the symbiosis and movement of the performers.
The latest creation by these two emerging artists, ‘Matomari No Nai’, premiered at the SoloDuo Festival in Cologne (Germany). Subsequently, the piece was presented at the 31st Quinzena de Dança de Almada (Portugal), the International Choreographic Competition Linkage (Bulgaria), where they won 3rd place and the Audience Award, and the Straybirds Dance Platform (Taiwan), securing them a slot in the 2024 edition of the MasDanza Festival (Spain). With this creation, they clinched the 1st place in the Prospettiva Danza Teatro International Prize Competition in Padova (Italy), further solidifying the international recognition of their work.
Catarina Casqueiro started her professional experience at the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company’s, later joined Vortice Dance Company where performed “Drácula“ and “Soliloquy about Wonderland” in several theaters around the world. Catarina created her own project with Tiago Coelho where the sustainable basis of the work is the exploration of movements in contemporary duet, giving rise to a unique and unique style. Individually and later, went to Denmark where it took part in the project ‘Danish Design’, choreographed by René Vinther and presented at Teatro Bellevue. Catarina worked with the choreographers like Flock, Pedro Ramos, Nélia Pinheiro and Filipa Peraltinha.
Tiago Coelho graduated from the Escola Superior de Dança, he continued his training in Israel, Germany, and the USA. He participates in performances by national and international choreographers and dance companies, namely Vortice Dance Company, Teresa Ranieri, René Vinther Pedersen, Marco da Silva Ferreira, Fabio Simões, Patrícia Henriques, Victor Hugo Pontes, Pedro Ramos, Sofia Dias and Pedro Roriz, and Quorum Ballet. Recently, he worked with the choreographer Damien Jalet on his creation ‘Chiroptera,’ performed at the Opéra Garnier (Paris). He was a guest teacher at the Escola Superior de Dança from 2021 to 2023, where he taught Contemporary Dance Technique.
